Red Raiders Set For First Midweek Game
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will look to move past the .500 mark on Tuesday as they welcome the New Mexico Lobos for a 3 p.m. game at Dan Law Field. The game against New Mexico marks the first midweek game of the season for the Red Raiders and the first of four games against the Lobos in 2007.
Texas Tech will take an eight-game win streak over the Lobos into Tuesday's contest as Tech has swept the season long series between the two teams the last two years. The Red Raiders own a 52-30-1 advantage in the all-time series while head coach Larry Hays owns a 40-12-1 record against the Lobos.
The Red Raiders come into the game against New Mexico after splitting a weekend series against Stephen F. Austin. Texas Tech had to rally for three runs in the seventh and eighth innings of the season opener to force the game into extra frames. Junior transfer Doug Thennis came up with a clutch RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Red Raiders their eighth-consecutive season opening win. On Sunday, the rally caps fell short for Tech as the Red Raiders left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and Stephen F. Austin recorded its first-ever win against a Big 12 opponent.
New Mexico finished the 2006 season with an overall record of 30-29 and Tuesday's game will mark the season opener for the Lobos.
Tickets for Tuesday's game can be purchased online at www.texastech.com or through the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH. The Dan Law Field Box Office will open 90 minutes prior to first pitch.
