LUBBOCK, Texas - After completing an up-and-down fall season, the Texas Tech men's golf team looks to start the spring on the right foot as the squad takes part in the 17th annual UH-Hilo Intercollegiate February 7-9 in Waikoloa, Hawaii. The Red Raiders will compete in one round per day on the Waikoloa Village Golf Course beginning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (Hawaii) each day.
Through the fall tournaments, the Red Raider team finished in the top five in two events, including a second-place finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. The team consisting of one upper- and four underclassmen hit rounds of 274-272-280--826 and set many school records in the process.
Texas Tech has once again put themselves into a tough field as they will take on 17 of the top schools in the nation at the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate. Results will be posted each day on www.texastech.com as soon as they become available.
THE COURSE
Nestled in the foothills of Mauna Kea overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Waikoloa Village Golf Course is truly one of Hawaii's most beautiful courses. This little piece of heaven is an oasis of emerald-green overlooking the Kohala Coast. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. the Waikoloa Village Golf Course fits harmoniously into the natural beauty of the setting.
A course that is challenging enough for the serious golfer, but fun for beginners as well. The 6,791-yard par-72 course has all of the characteristics of Jones designs, with additional challenges unique to this island landscape. A relaxed pace that is inviting and serene makes this course a favorite of local golfers, who consider it one of Hawaii's best-kept secrets. With complete practice facilities available and a Pro Shop stocked with golf equipment and accessories the Waikoloa Village Golf Course is a great place to practice, shop and play.

THE TUCKER FIELD
The Red Raiders will be taking on nine of the top division I schools that are ranked 50 or better in the final fall Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Stanford will enter as the team to beat at second with Oklahoma State ranked third. Southern California sits at eighth and completes the list of teams in the top 10. No. 20 Georgia Tech, No. 25 Arizona State, No. 30 Texas Tech, No. 34 TCU, No. 37 Washington, No. 39 Kansas and No. 49 Colorado round out the top 50 schools. The remaining schools competing are Oregon, UC-Davis, UH-Hilo, Hawaii, Oregon State, Oklahoma, Santa Clara and University of the Pacific.
THE LAST TEE
Texas Tech did not finish the fall season as well as they would have hoped, as they finished in 17th at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windemere, Fla. The team, competing without senior Oscar Floren, finished with its highest 54-hole score of the fall. The tournament also marked the first time of the season that a team member failed to finish in the top 20, as freshman Will Griffin led with a tie for 35th.
