LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior left-handed pitcher Colt Hynes was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week today in reward for a stellar performance against the 23rd-ranked TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon.
Hynes, a senior from Weatherford, Texas, fired the second complete game of his career on Sunday afternoon to help lead the Red Raiders to a 4-1 win over No. 23 TCU in the final day of the Whataburger College Classic at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Over nine innings of work, he did not issue a single walk and allowed just one run on six hits. His 11 strikeouts in the game surpassed his previous career-high of six that he set last season against Missouri. His performance earned him a spot on the 2007 Whataburger College Classic All-Tournament team.
The Big 12 award is the first of his career and the second this season by a Red Raider as Doug Thennis won the player of the week award back on Feb. 19.
