AUSTIN, Texas - With rain preventing the conclusion of the second round, Texas Tech and the remaining field of 14 completed only 18 holes at the 42nd annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas. Play was underway in the second round from the Austin Country Club when the tournament was suspended at 3:30 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area. With continuing rains, the day was called to a close and the second round will start over on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m.
The Red Raiders finished the first day in a day for 10th with a first-round score of 297. Kent State leads all teams with a 3-under 285. The top-ranked team in the field, No. 3 Oklahoma State, is in eighth place after shooting an 18-hole score of 295.
Tech senior Oscar Floren leads all Red Raiders as he sits in a tie for seventh. The Sweden native finished the first day with a 1-under 71. Santiago Rivas fired a 2-over 74 to tie for 31st. Tech teammates Garrett Merrell, Will Griffin and Matt Smith all finished the first round with a 76. The three Red Raiders, along with Jeremy Martin, who is competing as an individual, are all tied for 50th place.
David Ludlow of first-place Kent State is in the lead for the individual title. Ludlow completed the first 18 holes with a 6-under 66. Purdue's Vince Nadeau fired a 68 to finish 4-under on the day.
Texas Tech will complete the tournament on Tuesday with the second round as the third round has been cancelled due to the threat of poor weather conditions.
