LUBBOCK, Texas - Graham Harrell picked right up where he left off last season, showing accuracy and solid decision-making in the Red Raiders' first scrimmage of spring camp. The junior quarterback completed 19-of-23 passes for 282 yards and hit receivers for three touchdowns.
Head Coach Mike Leach was pleased with the initial scrimmage, citing the offensive for their effort and solid protection of the quarterbacks. The Red Raider defense picked up three sacks during the 80-play workout.
"I thought the offensive line did the best job as a unit today," Leach said. "We have a lot of young guys out there who have stepped in and played hard this spring. I was happy with the way the group played and their keeping the defense off the quarterbacks."
Backup quarterback Taylor Potts was 12-of-16 for 98 yards and a score and threw the lone interception of the day.
Junior receiver Eric Morris led with seven catches and totaled 63 yards and two touchdowns, while receivers L.A. Reed and Danny Amendola had a touchdown and 70 yards each on six and five receptions, respectively. Redshirt freshman Michael Crabtree also scored and had three receptions for 43 yards and Ed Britton grabbed three catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, four players led the unit with five stops each - linebacker Brian Duncan, safety Darcel McBath, linebacker Marlon Williams and safety Lance Fuller. Linebacker Ryan Hale totaled four solo stops, while safety Daniel Charbonnet grabbed the unit's lone interception. Defensive tackle Rajon Henley, defensive end Sandy Riley and linebacker Victor Hunter each recorded sacks.
The Red Raiders resume spring drills Monday at 3:15 p.m.
