LUBBOCK, Texas - Ruffin McNeill, assistant head football coach for the Red Raiders, has been selected as one of two coaches by the Big 12 Conference to represent the league at the 2007 Minority Coaches Forum in Chandler, Ariz., on May 1-2.
"I can't begin to express how honored I am at the opportunity to not only represent the Big 12 Conference, but also Texas Tech, at this forum," McNeill said. "This is a great chance to get together and work on ways to enhance and increase job opportunities for minority coaches in collegiate football. Maybe our efforts will permeate throughout coaching on every level, grade school to professional. This also gives me the opportunity to be a head coach in the future."
The purpose of the forum is to provide a greater opportunity for minority coaches to interact with institutional administrators and search firms that are responsible for hiring Division I head coaches. In addition to the Big 12, other conferences participating include the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East Conference, Big Ten Conference, Pac-10 Conference and Southeastern Conference.
McNeill begins his eighth season at Texas Tech and is a 21-year collegiate veteran. Carrying dual duties as defensive tackles coach and special teams coordinator, McNeill is one of the most versatile coaches on the staff and also one of the most beloved by the Red Raider players.
McNeill and the Red Raiders kickoff spring practices March 21. The annual Red-Black Game is scheduled for April 14.
