Tech Shoots Low Round to Improve at USC Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - After shooting the field's fifth lowest round on the day, the Texas Tech men's golf team improved two places to finish 11th at the USC Collegiate Invitational. The Red Raiders turned in rounds of 299-296-292--887 to finish 35-over-par and move up from 13th place after day one.
Individually senior Oscar Floren completed the tournament with his 25th career top-20 finish as he tied for 20th place. Floren fired his lowest round in the final 18 holes as he carded scores of 74-74-69--217. On his way to Tech's only under-par round, Floren tallied an eagle and two birdies to finish 2-under on the day.
Teammates Garrett Merrell and Will Griffin each tied for 33rd with a 54-hole score of 8-over 221. Merrell fired his lowest round on Tuesday to finish with scores of 76-73-72--221. Griffin turned in rounds of 72-73-76--221. Santiago Rivas and Jake Younan-Wise also hit their lowest rounds in the final 18 holes. Rivas carded rounds of 79-76-75--230 to tie for 61st, while Younan-Wise had scores of 77-80-76--233 to finish in a tie for 69th.
Top-ranked Stanford pulled out a victory with rounds of 284-285-279--848 to finish five shots ahead of host USC (291-277-285--853). Trojan Rory Hie, who sat in a tie for third place after 36 holes, took the individual title, as he fired 69-68-71--208 to finish 5-under par.
