Indoor Season to Close with Premier Event

LUBBOCK, Texas - With the qualification of 12 Texas Tech student-athletes to the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships, the Red Raiders are set for competition beginning on Fri., March 9. The two-day event will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., for the eighth-consecutive year.
Seven Red Raider men and five women made the cut on Monday after the declaration lists were announced. On the men's side, seniors Kevin Chelimo, Marlon Odom and Bryan Scott, all returning-All-Americans, qualified in three different events. Chelimo qualified in the 5000M and Odom in the 60M hurdles. Scott, along with Brandon Washington, Tim Foster and Rodney Mims, are listed for the men's 4x400M relay squad. Freshman Anthony Flemons finished second in the nation for the men's triple jump to earn his first career qualification.
For the women, five all-conference members will be competing in the Red and Black in Fayetteville. Big 12 champions Julianne Kennedy, Irene Kimaiyo and Sally Kipyego will all compete at the 25th annual women's championships. Kennedy will take part in the women's pentathlon, while Kimaiyo and Kipyego each made the cut in the 3000M. Kipyego additionally will compete in the 5000M, an event that she championed at the conference meet. Also qualifying are current school record holders Lacy Wilson and Lindsey Walesheck. Wilson qualified in the women's high jump, while Walesheck will compete in her first championships in the pole vault.
The first event scheduled for a Red Raider will be 2:30 p.m. on Friday when Wilson competes in the women's high jump. The first running event of Friday will be the prelims of the 60M hurdles for Marlon Odom.
On Saturday, Tech action begins at 11:30 a.m. with the 60M hurdles of the women's pentathlon. At 5:00 p.m. Walesheck will compete in the pole vault, while Kimaiyo and Kipyego are scheduled to run in the 3000M at 7:35 p.m.
