Tech Heads South For Whataburger Classic
For the first time in school history, the Texas Tech baseball team will head to the city of Corpus Christi where the Red Raiders will take part in the 2007 Whataburger College Classic. The trip down to the coastal region of Texas will mark the final weekend of non-conference play as Texas Tech kicks off the Big 12 campaign next week at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. All three games of the Whataburger College Classic will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network and a special live video link can be accessed at www.texastech.com. The live video is being provided by the Corpus Christi Hooks and is not a part of RaiderVision All-Access.
The Red Raiders enter the weekend having split a midweek series at Dan Law Field against UNLV. Tech took the opener of the UNLV series on Tuesday night 7-6 but were denied the sweep as the Rebels took a 5-4 decision on Wednesday afternoon. Texas Tech will be making just its second trip from home this weekend as the Red Raiders have played 15 games within the friendly confines of Dan Law Field. Tech is 4-0 so far this season on the road as Tech swept the Midland College Classic Feb. 16-18 and won a midweek match-up at New Mexico on Feb. 27.
Texas Tech alumni and fans in the Corpus Christi area can attend the Red Raider Club Tailgate on Saturday evening prior to the game against Rice. The tailgate will get underway two hours prior to first pitch. Tickets for the 2007 Whataburger College Classic can be purchased in advance by calling the Corpus Christi Hooks at (361) 561-HOOK or at the gate prior to each game.
