Hey ya'll...it's Emily Ziegler. I'm a setter on the team and I'm going to be a senior this next year. I can't believe it either. Time has FLOWN by since I've been here. It feels like just the other day that I walked into the United Spirit Arena for the first time. I remember being so overwhelmed by how big everything was but now I feel like it's my second home.
We've been spending a lot of time up there lately since we just started back to team practices, probably about 2 hours a day. It's exciting to finally be back in the gym with the whole team...the last time that happened was nearly three months ago. So far this semester we've just been doing individuals where we can only have 4 players in the gym at a time which makes it kind of hard to get a good idea about how the team as a whole has improved. But I've been pretty impressed by everyone, seeing how everyone has improved individually can only show you so much, but as a team we've been working together really well.
On top of team practices we've still got our weights and conditioning but now instead of the morning we just do everything after practice. It's nice being able to sleep in again, sort of...but then again after practicing for 2 hours, weights and conditioning is pretty tough because our legs are completely worn out. The team has been putting forth a lot of effort to get in better physical shape then we ever have been. I know right now it's difficult to push through workouts but I just take it one day at a time. Before you know it, it'll be time for season again and all our hard work will pay off big time. Plus this is our last week before spring break so we're about to get a week to relax a little bit, even though I'm sure Katie, our strength coach, will give us workouts to make sure we stay in shape.
Anyways guys, I hope this kind of helps you figure out what spring is about. We put in a lot a of work but it'll yield a big reward once we get back to competing again in the fall. Good luck with any games ya'll are playing right now and keep at it. Hopefully we'll see you soon! Keep your guns up!
