LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech All-American end Dave Parks was named to the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for the 2007 class, while former Tech assistant coach Dave Brown also made the list of candidates.
"This is a tremendous honor for Texas Tech and for both Dave Parks and Dave Brown," Gerald Myers, Texas Tech Director of Athletics, said. "The contributions both players made to collegiate football during their careers is deserving of this recognition."
A 10-year NFL veteran with the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints and Houston Oilers, Parks is on the ballot for the fifth time since 2003. The two-time All-Southwest Conference selection led the Red Raiders in receiving in 1962 and 1963, collecting 32 receptions each year for 399 and 499 yards, respectively.
Brown served as cornerbacks coach for the Red Raiders during the 2001-05 seasons. Prior to joining the Texas Tech staff, he served as an assistant coach with the Seattle Seahawks after a stellar career with the organization as a defensive back. The 13-year NFL veteran and All-Pro honoree was an All-American at the University of Michigan in the mid-70s. Brown passed away in January 2006.
Only two players in the history of Texas Tech football have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame - E.J. Holub and Donny Anderson.
