Doug Thennis Claims Whataburger Classic Home Run Title

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Junior Doug Thennis got Texas Tech rolling in the 2007 Whataburger College Classic as he picked up the Home Run Derby title earlier this evening.

Thennis belted 10 home runs during the derby and beat out Rice's Adam Zornes who hit nine. Each school entered two contestants into the derby and each player was given two rounds with five outs per round. Thennis hit four home runs during his first round and added six in the second round.

Texas Tech opens tournament play on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
