Tech Women Sit in Fourth at Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. - With two Red Raiders in the top 20, the Texas Tech women's golf team is currently in fourth place at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. The tournament that is taking place at the Quail Run Golf Course had Tech finish the first round with a 12-over 300.
Both Ulrika Van Niekerk and Rosalyn Kim are in 11th place on the individual leaderboard. The sophomore and freshman both fired a 2-over 74 in the first 18 holes. Two shots behind are Gloriana Soto and Tracy Stanford. Both Red Raiders turned in a first round score of 76. Megan Dowdy is tied for 43rd after shooting 78, while Brynn Anderson finished with a first round of 80 to sit in a tie for 70th.
Big 12 member Baylor has a commanding lead over the 18-team field as they finished Friday's round with a 1-over 289. Tied for second and only two shots ahead of the Red Raiders are Toledo and Arkansas-Little Rock. Baylor's Allison Martin and UALR's Anita Ojeda sit lead all individuals after firing a 3-under 69.
Play will continue on Saturday with the second round, while the concluding round will take place on Sunday. Live results can be found on www.golfstat.com and Texas Tech results will be posted online at www.texastech.com after each round.
