Two Red Raiders in Top Five of Big 12 Championship

WACO, Texas - Texas Tech completed day one of the Big 12 Championship in the middle of the pack with two individuals sitting in the top five. Sophomore Ulrika Van Niekerk is leading the Red Raiders after carding a 2-over 74 in the first round from Waco, Texas, good for a third-place tie. Sophomore Gloriana Soto is tied for fifth with an 18-hole score of 75, three-over-par.
Tech posted an opening round of 310 and is only two shots back from a three-way tie for second. With every team in the field shooting over-par, No. 14 Texas A&M leads all conference members with a 12-over 300. No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 36 Baylor and Colorado are tied for second with a first-round score of 308, 20-over-par.
Amanda Costner of Kansas finished as the only individual in the tournament with an under-par score on Monday, as she carded a 1-under 71. In second behind Costner is Texas A&M's Christa Spedding who posted an even-par 72.
Tech sophomore Megan Dowdy is tied for 37th with an opening round of 8-over 80. Tracy Stanford finished with an 81 on the day, nine-over-par, and is tied for 44th. Freshman Rosalyn Kim fired an 11-over 83 to sit in a 53rd-place tie.
The second round from the Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas, will take place on Tues., April 17th.
