LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball program has announced the signing of two junior college players to National Letters of Intent. Stanecia Graham (Aurora, Ill./Cloud County Community College) and Kaylan Talley (Waco, Texas/Clarendon College) will attend Texas Tech University in the fall of 2007.
Graham and Talley join a top 10 recruiting class, which consists of early signees Alana Rumph (Keller, Texas/South Plains College), Dominic Seals (Dallas, Texas/South Plains College) and Keisha Walker (Kansas City, Mo./Fort Scott Community College), who all signed during the November signing period.
Graham, a 6-1 forward who hails from Aurora, Ill., played two years at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan., where she became the school's second all-time leading scorer with 1,182 career points. In her first year at Cloud County, Graham was All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Western Division first team and selected Freshman of the Year for the KJCCC Western Division. She was also first team All-Region 6 and was named to the All-Region 6 Tournament team. Graham was honorable mention All-America by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and played in the inaugural NJCAA/WBCA All-Star game as a freshman. In her second year, Graham was All-KJCCC Western Division first team and first team All-Region 6. She was also named to the All-Region 6 Tournament team, while being selected third team All-America by the NJCAA. Graham averaged 18.4 points and 9.9 rebounds this season for the Thunderbirds.
"Stanecia gives us power and a physical presence in the paint," said head coach Kristy Curry. "She has the ability to be a presence on the low block, yet face up from the high post. She was one our top targets from day one and we are thrilled to have her make a commitment to be part of our family."
A native of Waco, Texas, Talley played just one year at Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas, and will have three years of eligibility at Texas Tech. Talley, a 6-5 left-handed post, averaged 13 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks as a freshman. Her 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks ranked first in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC). For her efforts, Talley was named to the All-WJCAC first team.
"Kaylan is an athletic left-handed post who gives us size in the paint," Curry said. "She has three years of eligibility remaining and will continue to improve her game. We think she has a great upside and future."
