LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball program has announced the signing of two junior college players to National Letters of Intent. Maria Moore (Sparks, Nev./College of Southern Idaho) and Ashlee Roberson (San Antonio, Texas/South Plains College) will attend Texas Tech University in the fall of 2007.
Moore and Roberson join a top 10 recruiting class, which consists of Stanecia Graham (Aurora, Ill./Cloud County Community College) and Kaylan Talley (Waco, Texas/Clarendon College), who signed earlier this month, and early signees Alana Rumph (Keller, Texas/South Plains College), Dominic Seals (Dallas, Texas/South Plains College) and Keisha Walker (Kansas City, Mo./Fort Scott Community College), who all signed during the November signing period.
Moore, a 5-5 guard who hails from Sparks, Nev., and graduated from Reed High School in 2005, was honored as a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American and led CSI to the Region XVIII finals each of the past two seasons. She leaves the Golden Eagles after scoring 1,131 career points for an average of 17.7 points per game and leading them to a 50-14 record.
"Maria brings us that impact point guard with two years of experience," said head coach Kristy Curry. "Her quickness, athleticism and ability in the open floor give us a dimension that will fit very well in the Big 12."
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Roberson played just one year at South Plains College after graduating from Converse Judson High School in 2006, and will have three years of eligibility at Texas Tech. Roberson, a 5-11 forward, averaged 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds as a freshman. She was a Kodak/WBCA All-America honorable mention selection, while being named first team all-conference and all-region. Roberson helped lead the Lady Texans to a 31-2 record en route to capturing the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) title with a 13-1 record.
"Ashlee is an extremely versatile athlete who can score inside-outside," stated Curry. "She brings a level of tenacity and winning attitude that will be very exciting to watch for the next three years. This is an outstanding addition to our sophomore class."
