LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech "Take Your Best Shot" photo contest has selected its winner. Bernay Sheffield of San Angelo, Texas, showed his Texas Tech spirit in his office surrounded by all his Texas Tech memorabilia.
Sheffield, whose granddaughter, Bree Darnell submitted the photo, owns Zentner's Daughter Steakhouse in San Angelo with his wife, Betty (Zentner's daughter) and has decorated his office there in Texas Tech memorabilia. He keeps pacifiers, bibs and cups to give newborn babies their first Texas Tech memorabilia. Customers are always bringing him Texas Tech things to put in his office. Sheffield even owns a Double T brand and sometimes brands the Double T on his steaks for practical jokes.
Sheffield claims to be "Tech's biggest fan" since 1956, when he started his freshman year at Texas Tech, although he was a fan way before that. He graduated from Tech in 1961 with a degree in business and a minor in ag economics. Sheffield attends all football games and most men's and women's basketball, and baseball games.
As winner of the contest, Sheffield won autographed items, including a Kristy Curry and Lady Raider Nike basketball, t-shirt and team poster. He has the opportunity to be a Guest Coach at the home game against Texas (meet the team and Curry, an on-court presentation during pre-game activities and display of his winning photo on RaiderVision).
