Tech Soccer Dominates Texas State

San Marcos, Texas - Behind strong performances by Emmie Bennett and Priscilla Esquivel, Red Raider head coach Tom Stone now has career win No. 1 as Tech soccer coach following a 3-0 victory over Texas State. The Red Raiders improve to 1-2 on the season.
Bennett led the Red Raiders with two goals, both in the final ten minutes of the match. To the pleasure of Stone, her second goal came via a Megan Hoffert assist. Hoffert recently recovered from an ACL injury and played in seven minutes of the match.
With the score tied at zero at halftime, Sarabeth Clopton headed in a Shannon Sims corner kick in the 55th minute.
"We were proud of the girls tonight," Stone said. "After a difficult first half, we were a different team in the second half. I was really proud of how they responded. The girls are excited, and they should be. It's always good to get a win."
Statistically, the Red Raiders dominated Texas State with 22 shots and 13 corners compared to the five and three by the Bobcats.
The Red Raiders return to R.P. Fuller Stadium this Fri., Sept. 7 for a 7:30 match against Stephen F. Austin. All tickets will be $1.
All fans with their ticket stub from the UTEP football game will get in free Sun., Sept. 9 when the Red Raiders face the University of Texas-San Antonio.
