Texas Tech Eighth in Initial BCS Poll

LUBBOCK, Texas - The first BCS rankings of the season are out and the Red Raiders are eighth. Texas Tech is one of four Big 12 Conference South Division teams among the top eight as Texas (1), Oklahoma (4) and Oklahoma State (6) also are ranked.
The ranking is the highest in the poll for Texas Tech since a program-best No. 7 standing Oct. 18, 2005. The Red Raiders also are ranked No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the Associated Press Poll, dropping a spot in each this week, despite prevailing 43-25 at Texas A&M over the weekend.
Texas holds the top spot followed by Alabama, Penn State, Oklahoma and USC in the top five. Oklahoma State, Georgia, Texas Tech, Ohio State and Florida are six through 10. Other Big 12 teams ranked include Missouri (15) and Kansas (23).
The Red Raiders face No. 18/19 Kansas in Lawrence on Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN with Dave Pasch and Andre Ware calling the game.
