LUBBOCK, Texas - Following a dramatic come-from-behind win over then-No. 1 Texas, Texas Tech was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week, the organization announced Monday. The second-ranked Red Raiders improved to 9-0 with the win for the first time since the 1938 season.
Tech's win over the Longhorns marked the first victory over a top-ranked opponent in school history and propelled the Red Raiders to No. 2 and No. 3 rankings in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls this week. The win also marked the 500th in program history.
The Red Raiders knocked off the Longhorns, 39-33, in front of a school-record 56,333 fans and ran their national-best winning streak to 11 games, dating back to last season. Tech hosts No. 8 Oklahoma State on Saturday in a game that marks the first time Tech has hosted back-to-back top 10 programs.
Saturday's contest kicks off at 7 p.m. and will air on ABC.
