LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech wide receiver Danny Amendola (The Woodlands, Texas) suits up Saturday for the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game as the most accomplished player among both teams' receivers. The game kicks off at 4 p.m. CT at the Sun Bowl in El Paso and can be seen on CSTV.
Playing for the Texas team, Amendola is the lone Red Raider in the game, but joins a cast of former Big 12 Conference standouts on the roster, including Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer, Oklahoma offensive tackle Brandon Keith and Sooner placekicker Garrett Hartley.
Amendola capped a stellar four-year career with one of the best receiving seasons in school history, amassing 109 receptions, 1,245 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He finished among the NCAA leaders in receiving yards per game (16th, 95.8) and receptions per game (4th, 8.4). His 109 receptions on the season also ranked fourth. Additionally, Amendola's receptions total in 2007 is more than eight of the ten players in the game recorded during their respective careers.
A multi-talented player for the Red Raiders, Amendola was the team's leading punt returner each of the last four seasons. He rolled up 1,283 career punt return yards, which ranks third all-time at Tech, and is only the third player in school history with more than 100 returns (116). He finished his career ranked seventh on the career all-purpose yardage list with 3,839 yards.
