LAS VEGAS, Nev. - In exhibition action Sunday morning, Texas Tech softball fell to the Canadian National Team 10-1 as the Red Raiders wrapped up their first weekend of action this season. The game with Canada will not count on Tech's season record and stats for the game will not count either.
Jennifer Bowers picked up one of Tech's five hits in the game in the bottom of the fifth with a huge blast to center field. Jennifer Corkin went 1-3 and Alex Watkins was 1-2 while picking up the loss in the circle.
Canada showed why it is a threat to medal in the upcoming Olympics as it put across three runs in the first. It added two more in the second and another in the third to build a 6-0 advantage. Bowers' home run in the bottom of the fifth made it 6-1, but Canada picked up four runs in the sixth to force to the early conclusion. Tech had chances in a couple of innings to cut the deficit, but it was unable to get runners across.
The Red Raiders will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Tempe, Ariz. for five games. Memphis, No. 1 Arizona, Utah, California and Western Kentucky are on the bracket.
