ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Devin Zaragoza picked up four hits and Texas Tech's offense tallied 10 for the game, but errors made the difference for the second-consecutive outing as the Red Raiders fell to Missouri 10-4 on eight unearned Tiger runs Saturday afternoon.
Mizzou improved to 8-4 on the season, while Tech (0-10) dropped their eighth game of the season to a squad that is either ranked in the Top 25 or receiving votes as the Tigers are among those schools receiving votes.
Zaragoza led Tech, going 4-4 on the afternoon. Leah Legler went 2-4 with three runs scored to mark her fourth-straight game with a hit. Jennifer Corkin was 2-4 with an RBI. Tye Coats (0-3) picked up the loss in the circle.
The Red Raiders came out swinging in the first and put across their first run when Legler came in on a single from Coats. Tech was unable to get anything more, however, as Missouri's Jana Hainey settled in to put the skids on a promising first.
The bottom of the first proved to be a unique one. The Tigers put across eight unearned runs on five Red Raider errors. Tech battled back hard with two runs in the second behind a triple from Whitney Riley and an RBI single from Corkin. The Red Raiders added their fourth in the top of the fourth when Legler came in on a wild pitch. Hainey shut the door from there, giving up just one more Tech hit the rest of the way.
Hainey (4-1) picked up the win for the Tigers, while Lindsey Uburn was 2-3 and Meredith Nash hit a homerun to lead Missouri.
The Red Raiders will be right back in action against Wichita State at 6:30 p.m. CT. Fans can catch the action live at www.texastech.com.
