- According to all the historical information available as of Sunday evening, Texas Tech's series-win over No. 2 Missouri marks a first in school history. Until this afternoon, the Red Raiders had never claimed a three-game series win over a team ranked No. 2 in the nation. Tech has previously won series' against No. 3 Texas in 2000 and No. 3 Texas A&M in 1999.
- Texas Tech claims its first Big 12 series win of the season and are now tied with Oklahoma State for fifth place in the league standings. Tech's last Big 12 series win came last season at home against the Kansas Jayhawks.
- Doug Thennis' walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the ninth marks the second game-winning home run of his career. He hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth last season against No. 16 Nebraska in the Sunday finale that gave the Red Raiders a 2-1 series win over the Huskers. Thennis finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with a career-high six RBIs.
- Tech's win in the bottom of the ninth gives the Red Raiders their third such win of the season and all three have come in the last week. Tech defeated UC-Riverside on Monday on a wild pitch in the bottom and Taylor Ashby lifted Tech to a 3-2 win over Missouri on Saturday with an RBI single to center.
- Junior closer Zach Stewart gave up a season-high four runs on the afternoon and that doubled his season total coming into today's game. Coming into today, he had only given up two total earned runs and both of those were solo home runs against Central Arkansas and Texas A&M. He picked up the win despite the scoring and he hurled a perfect ninth inning to improve to 2-0.
- Tech's three mighty mites came through big for the Red Raiders as Joey Kenworthy, Willie Rueda and Chris Hall were a combined 8-for-14 on the day with five RBIs and eight runs scored.
- Missouri holds a slim 21-19 lead in the all-time series but Texas Tech owns a 12-6 advantage now in games played in Lubbock.
- Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays is now just two wins shy of the 1,500th of his 38-year career.
