Men and Women Move to #14 in USTFCCCA Rankings

LUBBOCK, Texas - After a strong showing at the Big 12 Championships, the Texas Tech track teams have jumped up in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association to #14. This is the sixth week in a row the men have been ranked and the third week of the season the women have been ranked.
The men moved up two spots after being ranked #16 for three weeks. One automatic mark and two provisionals were earned this past weekend at the Big 12 Championships. Julius Walker was the lone automatic mark for the men running a 6.63 to win the 60M. The 4x400M relay team of Bill Lawhorn, Gil Roberts, Shawon Harris and Lamont Adams ran its second NCAA provisional time of 3:08.38. Anthony Flemons jumped the team's second provisional mark in the triple jump and his mark of 52'-6.5" is the ninth best in the nation. Jansen Hyde ran his first provisional of the year in the 60M hurdles with a time of 7.90.
The women jumped up to #14 after three automatic marks and four provisionals were earned this past weekend. Julianne Kennedy set a school record and automatically qualified in the pentathlon with a score of 4,085 points. Sally Kipyego earned one automatic and one provisional mark. The automatic mark came in the mile with a school record time of 4:36.31 and a provisional time of 9:17.01 in the 3000M. Patience Knight threw her first NCAA automatic mark in the shot put with a distance of 56'-4.5" to set a new school record. The women's DMR of Asia Diaz, Sandra Iwunze, Shannon Jackson and Sally Kipyego ran its second provisional mark of the year with a time of 11:24.84.
The Tech track teams will be traveling to various meets this weekend for one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships on March 14-15. For more information, please log onto ww.texastech.com.
