SETTING THE SCENE
Here we go again. Just when it looked like the Red Raiders would be enjoying the comforts of home, Texas Tech has been forced to hit the road again this weekend - this time the destination will be San Marcos, Texas. Illinois officials contacted Texas Tech late on Thursday evening to notify the school that the Illini would be unable to make the trip to Lubbock for a four-game series due to travel problems. The team attempted to fly out of Chicago O'Hare yesterday evening with a scheduled arrival time of 9:30 in Lubbock but found their flight cancelled due to inclement weather both in Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth. The earliest time that Illinois could get to Lubbock was Saturday night, meaning that the series would have to be reduced to one game and both head coaches then agreed to cancel the entire series.
For the second time in three weeks, the Southland Conference came to the rescue for the Red Raiders as Texas State's Ty Harrington has allowed the Red Raiders to join what was scheduled to be a four-game series this weekend between the Bobcats and the Huskies. Texas Tech will face Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. on Saturday and then turn around and face Texas State at 6 p.m. that evening. The Red Raiders will face the Huskies again at Noon on Sunday and will close out the trip with a 2:30 p.m. game on Monday against Texas State.
All four games this weekend will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Blayne Beal calling the action live from Bobcat Field. Live streaming audio and game statistics will be available online at www.texastech.com.
