Seals Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior Dominic Seals was named the 2007-08 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, which was released today by the conference office along with the rest of the Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Awards.
Seals, who hails from Dallas, Texas, is playing her first year at Texas Tech after transferring from South Plains College. Along with her Newcomer of the Year award, Seals was also selected second team All-Big 12 and named to the Big 12 All-Rookie Team.
The honors were voted on by the league's head coaches, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own players.
This season Seals has averaged team bests of 13.8 points and 8.4 rebounds and has a team-high 41 blocks. She has recorded eight double-doubles and scored in double figures in 22 of 30 games.
The Lady Raiders will face Texas in the first round of the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship on Tues., March 11, at 6 p.m., at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
