SETTING THE SCENE
Texas Tech hits the road again this weekend and will be looking to improve its Big 12 standing as the eighth-place Red Raiders face the 10th-place Kansas Jayhawks in a three-game series at Hoglund Ballpark. The series gets underway at 4 p.m. on Friday night and continues at noon on Saturday. Saturday's game is being televised nationally (check local listings) on FSN with Greg Lucas and Jack Lazorko calling the action. The series will conclude at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Raiders and the Jayhawks will both be looking to climb up the Big 12 standings as both schools suffered series' sweeps last weekend. Tech dropped three games at No. 9 Nebraska while Kansas was swept at Baylor. Texas Tech rebounded on Tuesday night with a 10-0 win over New Mexico but fell 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon to earn a season series split with the Lobos. Kansas had its two-game series against Northern Colorado cancelled due to weather and come into the series having lost seven of their last eight contests.
Texas Tech has faced Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri and Nebraska in the first four weeks of Big 12 play and all four of those teams were picked to finish in the top six according to the preseason coaches poll. The Red Raiders have three Big 12 home series remaining on the schedule and only six more league contests on the road.
All three games of the Kansas series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Blayne Beal calling the action live from Hoglund Ballpark. Live audio will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
