SETTING THE SCENE
Texas Tech takes another midweek break from the grind of the Big 12 Conference as the Red Raiders open up a two-game series against the New Mexico State Aggies. The series will be split as the first game will be held at Dan Law Field on Tuesday night while Wednesday's game will move to Roswell's Coca-Cola Field. First pitch on Tuesday at Dan Law is set for 6:05 p.m. while Wednesday's game will get underway at 5 p.m. locally and 6 p.m. (CT).
The Red Raiders finally got the giant monkey off their back on Sunday afternoon as the Red Raiders snapped an eight-game losing skid with a 19-4 run-rule victory over the Kansas State Wildcats. Tech's eight-game losing skid was its longest since the 1987 season, Larry Hays' first as head coach. Tech was one strike away from winning the series against KSU as the Tech watched a 4-3 lead disappear with a full count and two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Tech now stands in last place in the Big 12 standings and will host ninth-place Oklahoma this weekend in Lubbock.
Both games of the New Mexico State series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Matt Miller calling the action live from Dan Law Field. Live audio and video will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
