LUBBOCK, Texas - Chessa Purser and Katie Hinds connected on two goals each, as the Texas Tech soccer team remained perfect in its spring season with a 4-3 victory over TCU Saturday at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
With the win, the Red Raiders improve to 3-0 in its spring session, while TCU drops to 1-2. The Horned Frogs took the regular season matchup last year, winning 2-1 in Fort Worth.
"It was a great night for our Red Raider players," Tech Head Coach Tom Stone said. "We got to play in a world-class facility, and we earned the result we wanted against a very good TCU team. We would sincerely like to thank FC Dallas Youth for hosting such a well-run event as well as the Tech fans who turned out in force for us tonight."
Purser would begin the scoring early in the 18th minute, heading in the rebound off a Halie Cdebaca shot that bounced off the crossbar. TCU would even the match up nine minutes off a header from a corner kick, sending both teams into halftime tied 1-1.
Two minutes out of the locker room, Hinds would find the back of the net off a header from a Purser cross. Five minutes later, Hinds would take a Kim Cypert cross from just inside the right box and fire into the right post for her third goal of the spring.
Following another TCU goal midway through the second half, Chessa Purser would put the Red Raiders ahead for good in the 34th minute, stealing the ball and firing it barely over the Horned Frog goalkeeper's head. Purser has now scored four goals over the past two matches and leads the Red Raiders in total goals for the spring.
TCU would add another goal in the match's closing minutes. Because spring matches are not official NCAA contests, no official stats were available.
Tech closes its spring schedule next weekend in El Paso, Texas, in a two-day event against Arizona State on April 12 and UTEP the following day.
