LUBBOCK, Texas - In a field featuring eight of the top 50 teams in the country, the No. 28 Texas Tech men's golf team is in seventh place after day one of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin. Tech fired a 21-over 589 for the first two rounds to land one shot back of the nation's top-ranked team, Alabama, and sit just three strokes out of fourth place.
The Red Raiders opened the day strong, carding a nine-over 293 to fall just three strokes off the leaders in fourth place. Tech followed with a 296 in the second round but fell a couple spots in the standings as a number of teams caught fire to cause the leaderboard to shift.

Chris Ward (74-75) is tied for 28th with a seven-over 149, while Will Griffin, who had Tech's lowest stroke average entering the event, rounded off the Red Raiders at 153.
