SETTING THE SCENE
Texas Tech will be anxious to return to the diamond this week as the Red Raiders play host to the New Mexico Lobos in a two-game midweek series at Dan Law Field. The action against New Mexico gets underway at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday and will conclude at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The midweek set against New Mexico will wrap up a season-long four game series against the Lobos as Tech has played two single games already this season in Albuquerque. Tech lost the first game 7-3 back on Feb. 27 and then evened things up with an 8-6 win on March 11.
The Red Raiders had their four-game win streak squashed over the weekend in Lincoln, Neb., as the Red Raiders suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the ninth-ranked Huskers. Nebraska took a 6-2 win on Friday night and then clinched the series with a 5-2 win on Saturday. Tech had its chances to avoid the sweep on Sunday but Nebraska's Nick Sullivan blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 3-2 Tech lead and the Huskers held on for a 5-3 win. Sullivan drove in all five of Nebraska's runs on Sunday and helped moved them to a league-best record of 10-1-1. The Red Raiders will return to Big 12 action this weekend as they face the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, Kan.
The New Mexico Lobos enter the midweek with a 20-11 record overall and a 5-4 mark in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos took 2-of-3 over the weekend at San Diego State and come into the series against Tech with .315 team batting average and a 5.23 staff ERA.
Both games of the New Mexico series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Matt Miller calling the action live from Dan Law Field. Live audio and video will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
