SETTING THE SCENE
Texas Tech finds its 2008 season literally on the brink this weekend as the Red Raiders open up a critical three-game series against the eighth-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater. First pitch of the three-game series will be delivered at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The series will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon before wrapping up at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets for all three games are available through the OSU Athletics Ticket Office in advance or on game day at the stadium.
The Red Raiders (21-26) must win (at the very least) their final two remaining Big 12 Conference series' if they hope to secure one of the final remaining spots in the Big 12 Conference Championship at Bricktown Ballpark, May 21-25. Texas Tech enters the weekend in last place in the league standings but is just one game out of eighth place. Oklahoma State enters the series with an NCAA at-large bid pretty much secured and will be looking to improve upon its third place standing in the league.
Texas Tech didn't handle its nine-game layoff very well on Wednesday night as the Red Raiders suffered a 16-7 setback at Dallas Baptist. The Patriots scored in every inning of the game except for the eighth and collected 18 hits on the night. Oklahoma State fell to No. 4 Rice 4-2 on Wednesday evening at Reckling Park in Houston and fell to 35-13 on the year.
All three games of the Oklahoma State series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Blayne Beal calling the action live from Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Live audio will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
