Tech Women's Squad Named an ITA All-Academic Squad

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team was one of 101 teams named as an ITA All-Academic Team that was announced today. In addition, two former Red Raiders Ingrid Ballus and Janet Durham, along with sophomore's Kelsy Garland, Simone Templeton and senior Samantha van der Drift earned ITA Scholar-Athlete status.
The team award is open to any program whose student-athletes combine for at least a 3.20 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. All student-athletes who have competed in at least one match whether in the fall or spring are included in the calculation.
For individuals to earn Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year and must have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
"I am very proud of the team and for all the hard work, not only on the court, but also academically as well," head coach Cari Groce said. "The award shows how hard they worked and it is not easy being named all-academic with the travel schedule and workout schedule we have. It is a huge accomplishment and I congratulate the girls."
Tech will begin the 2008 fall season Sept. 19th, at the Rice Invitational.
