LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech set another record - only this time it was off the field. A record 1,300-plus fans filled the Lubbock Civic Center Exhibit Hall for Thursday's Kickoff Luncheon. The event is an annual tradition that included appearances by Red Raider Head Coach Mike Leach, the Texas Tech Football team, Chancellor Kent Hance, President Dr. Guy Bailey and Director of Athletics Gerald Myers.
Kelley Coffman, Red Raider Club coordinator of the event, indicated "it was a phenomenal turnout, and if this is an indication of the season, our fans will create a big homefield advantage for our team. Today was a huge success and the biggest in RRC history. We truly appreciate the support of our fans and look forward to seeing them this season."
Seven other Red Raider teams gearing up for fall competition also were represented - volleyball, soccer, men and women's golf, men and women's cross country and women's tennis. The Goin' Band from Raiderland, the cheer and pom squads, Raider Red, the Masked Rider and Saddle Tramps also were in attendance.
All proceeds from the Kickoff Luncheon will go directly to the Red Raider Scholarship Fund. The Red Raider Club is the principle fundraising arm of Texas Tech Athletics and your attendance and donation to the luncheon directly supports more than 400 student-athletes.
