LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports, has announced that Steve Strain has been named the play-by-play radio announcer for the Texas Tech women's basketball program.
Strain takes over for former longtime radio announcer, Ryan Hyatt, who chose not to return courtside this season for the Lady Raiders.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech Sports Network, Strain served as play-by-play announcer for Champion Sports Radio Network in Dallas, which covers various high school sports broadcasts. Before his time in Dallas, Strain spent two seasons as a play-by-play announcer for Abilene Christian University, where he announced football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball games.
Strain will be joined by former Lady Raider Crystal Boles, who will serve as the color analyst once again this season.
All Texas Tech women's basketball games will air live on the radio in Lubbock on Ramar Communication's KLZK 97.3 FM and KJTV 950 AM. In addition, the majority of the women's basketball games can also be heard live outside of Lubbock on KVRP 97.1 FM (Abilene/Haskell), KPAN 106.3 FM (Hereford), KHOB 1390 AM (Hobbs, NM), KPET 690 AM (Lamesa) and KVOP 1090 AM (Plainview).
The Lady Raiders tip-off the 2009-10 season on Sat., Nov. 14, at 11:45 a.m., as they host Sam Houston State at the United Spirit Arena.
