Exhibition Game vs. Lubbock Christian November 9, 2009

The Game
Texas Tech plays its only exhibition game of the season on Mon., Nov. 9, as it hosts Lubbock Christian at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. The Lady Raiders tip-off the regular season on Sat., Nov. 14, as they host Sam Houston State at 3:30 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. It will be the first of 18 home regular-season games for the Lady Raiders this season.

The game can be heard on the radio on the Texas Tech Sports Network as Steve Strain (play-by-play) and Crystal Boles (color commentary) call the game. The game can also be heard on the internet at www.texastech.com through RaiderVision All-Access. Live streaming is also available through RaiderVision All-Access and live stats are available through gametracker at www.texastech.com.
The Lady Raiders
Texas Tech returns just five letterwinners, including three starters, from last season, but welcomes two redshirt freshmen and five healthy freshmen. Among the veterans returning are seniors Jordan Murphree, Ashlee Roberson and Tilmila Martin. Murphree is Tech's top returning scorer after averaging 11.3 points per game. The other two returnees are sophomores Jordan Barncastle and Kierra Mallard. Mallard, one of the top freshmen in the Big 12 last year, is Tech's top returning rebounder at 7.9 boards per outing and is the second leading returning scorer at 9.8 points. Mallard led all Big 12 freshmen last year in scoring and rebounding and is the league's top returning rebounder among all classes this year. Sophomore Kaylan Talley and freshman Lindie Kimbro will see their first action after sitting out last season. The Lady Raiders also have five healthy freshmen in Marissa Ashton, Chynna Brown, Mary Bokenkamp, Christine Hyde and Monique Smalls. Freshman Shauntal Nobles will redshirt this year after rupturing her Achilles during preseason workouts. Also on the Tech bench is sophomore transfer Casey Morris, who played her freshman year at California and will sit out 2009-10 due to NCAA transfer rules, and junior transfer Teena Wickett. Tech has applied for a waiver for Wickett to determine if she can play this year or if she will have to sit out this season as well.
The Opponent
LCU has played two games this season and is 1-1 after losing to Abilene Christian, 81-61, and beating Southwest ,100-70. Junior Severyn Smith is averaging 13.5 points and sophomore Shamika Singleton is averaging 12.5. Sophomore Brittany Hampton is grabbing a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. Senior Ashley Coggins has a team-high eight assists, while Hampton leads the team in steals with three. Smith is the top shot blocker with three blocks. LCU is shooting 42.7 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from three-point range and 81.2 percent from the free throw line.
The Coaches
Texas Tech head coach Kristy Curry is in her fourth season at the helm of the Lady Raiders. Curry has compiled a record of 48-47 at Tech and a career record of 227-98 in 10 years. Steve Gomez is in his seventh year as head coach of the Lady Chaps with a career record of 134-65.
A Look Ahead
Texas Tech tips-off the 2009-10 season on Sat., Nov. 14, by hosting Sam Houston State at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Raiders will then travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the ESPNU Road to the Championship as they take on Tennessee on Tues., Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. on ESPNU. Tech returns home to play Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sun., Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. on the Texas Tech Sports Network. Tech then hosts the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tourney Nov. 27-29 as it plays San Francisco on Fri, Nov. 27, at 8 p.m., Texas-Arlington on Sat., Nov. 28, at 8 p.m., and Prairie View A&M on Sun., Nov. 29, at 2 p.m.
New Faces
Texas Tech has eight new faces in its locker room this year. Five of the eight are currently active. Freshmen Marissa Ashton, Chynna Brown, Mary Bokenkamp, Christine Hyde and Monique Smalls will all suit up for the exhibition game. Freshman Shauntal Nobles will redshirt this year after rupturing her Achilles during preseason workouts. Sophomore transfer Casey Morris will sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules, and junior transfer Teena Wickett has applied for a wavier to play this season. If the waiver is approved, she will suit up this year, if not, then she will wait to play until the 2010-11 season.
Class Breakdown
The 2009-10 Lady Raiders are young. This year's rosters has just three upperclassmen with three seniors - Tilmila Martin, Jordan Murphree and Ashlee Roberson - and just one junior in Teena Wickett. The sophomore class consists of Jordan Barncastle, Kierra Mallard and Kaylan Talley. The biggest class is the freshmen with five - Marissa Ashton, Chynna Brown, Mary Bokenkamp, Christine Hyde and Monique Smalls.
Degree in Hand
In May 2009, senior Jordan Murphree graduated cum laude in just three years. The Brock, Texas, native received her bachelor's degree in exercise and sport sciences and is currently working on a second degree in human development and family studies.
On the Tube
Texas Tech will have 12 regular-season games televised this season. The Lady Raiders will appear on ESPNU three times, FSN twice, FSN Kansas City (FSNKC) once and the Texas Tech Sports Network (TTSN) six times. Tech will play Tennessee (Nov. 17), at Texas (Feb. 7) and Kansas (Feb. 21) on ESPNU. The Lady Raiders' games on FSN include texas (Jan. 16) and Oklahoma State (Feb. 28). Tech's game at Kansas State (Feb. 24) will be on FSNKC. The six games on TTSN are Arkansas-Pine Bluff (2 p.m.), Savannah State (Jan. 2), at Oklahoma (Jan. 9), Colorado (Jan. 12), Nebraska (Jan. 27) and Oklahoma (Jan. 30).

TTSN has put together a seven-station network that offers coverage through the state of Texas and in parts of New Mexico. KJTV/KLZK-Lubbock serve as the network flagship stations. Kristy Curry's weekly television show, Lady Raider Basketball with Kristy Curry, will be televised every Sunday starting Jan. 10. The show will air on FOX34 at 10 p.m. and My Lubbock TV at 10:30 p.m.
The Kristy Curry Radio Showv
The Kristy Curry Radio Show will be held each Monday starting Jan. 4 from 6-7 p.m. The show will air on Double T 104.3 (KTTU FM) locally. The location of the show will be announced at a later date.
