Rueda Named to Preseason All-Big 12 Team

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior infielder Willie Rueda was named to the All-Big 12 preseason team by both Baseball America and Rivals, the publications announced today.
Rueda, an El Paso, Texas, native, led the Red Raiders in hitting last season, batting .361 while also driving in 33 RBIs. He also led the team and the Big 12 with 27 stolen bases.
In his three seasons, Rueda has been named to an All-Big 12 postseason team twice, taking honorable mention honors following his freshman and junior seasons. Rueda played in only 14 games of his sophomore campaign before undergoing Tommy John Surgery.
As a team, the Red Raiders were selected to finish eighth in the conference by both publications in their preseason predictions.
Tech opens its 2009 season next weekend, facing both Southern Utah and Texas-Pan American in a doubleheader on Fri., Feb. 20, at Dan Law Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
