LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's participation in the annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Pink Zone and the NCAA Pack the House Challenge was once again a very successful event.
The Lady Raiders had 9,011 fans in attendance at the Pink Zone/Pack the House with 600 Tech students taking part in the game.
Tech raised $8,867 for breast cancer research with these donations going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Lubbock affiliate.
"We would like to thank the Lady Raider nation for their commitment and contributions to this game," said head coach Kristy Curry. "Your support and dedication to this cause will help breast cancer research at both the local and national level."
During the night, local breast cancer survivors were recognized as guest coaches prior to the start of the game and Texas Tech Zeta Tau Alpha members volunteered with halftime activities with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Texas Tech fans were encouraged to wear pink, and the first 5,000 fans in attendance got an official Lady Raider Pink Zone t-shirt donated by General Mills and 1,000 pink pom poms were given out at the student entrance. General Mills also distributed sample cereals to fans as they exited the arena.
United Supermarkets, with the corporate office located in Lubbock, ran a special Pink Zone/Pack the House "Full Court Pass" sweepstakes at 44 stores in 23 towns around the Lubbock and Dallas area. Fans were able to register at participating stores for their chance to win three prize packages, which included tickets behind the bench, autographed items, cash prizes, hotel stay, pregame meals and on-court recognition.
