Lady Raiders Finish in Second at UNLV Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's golf team finished in second place behind host No. 40 UNLV but beat No. 10 Georgia, No. 23 Kent State, and No. 29 Oregon along the way.
It is the best finish by Texas Tech this spring and the fifth top 10 finish of the year. "This was a great event for us. The girls played their hearts out this week and put themselves in contention to win," head coach Stacey Totman said. "It is a great learning experience and it gives us a lot of confidence going into the rest of the spring."
Senior Ulrika Van Niekerk came through after struggling in the first two tourneys of the spring shooting extremely well. She carded a three-over 219 for the tournament and tied for sixth place overall.
Rosalyn Kim recorded her second-straight top 10 finish of the spring. Kim shot a five-over 221 and tied for tenth. Senior Megan Dowdy improved three strokes from the second round shooting a one-under 71 in the final round. She finished the tournament tied for 13th place after a three-day total of 222.
Sophomore Alex Gibson carded a six-over 222 over the three rounds and shot five birdies in her final round. Gibson tied for 24th. Sophomore Robyn Scott improved two strokes in the third round shooting a one-over 73 tying for 52nd place. "To have our top 3 kids finish in the top 13 was a great accomplishment. Alex and Robyn really came through for us this week," Totman exclaimed. "I was proud of all 5 of these players. We are looking forward to finishing out this season strong."
The next tournament for the Lady Raiders will be the Mountainview Invitational being held in Tucson, Ariz., on Sat., March 28 and Sun., March 29.
