Tech Splits With San Diego State

SAN DIEGO - Red Raider softball picked up a win over San Diego State, as it defeated the Aztecs, 5-3, before dropping game two, 4-2. Danielle Matthews and Stephanie Drewry each had five hits to help pace Texas Tech on the evening.
In game one, the Aztecs got on the board first courtesy of a single and a double to take the lead, 1-0. Tech rallied in the fifth when Drewry and Elizabeth Eimen each singled, and Alex Watkins reached on an error to load the bases. Holley Gentsch then reached on a fielder's choice allowing Drewry to score. Megan Shupp followed up with a single of her own to score Eimen. Next, Emily Bledsoe knocked in a base hit to score Watkins and Gentsch to give the Red Raiders the, 4-1, lead. SDSU tacked on two more in the bottom of the frame. In the sixth, Tech added an insurance run when Matthews doubled and scored courtesy of an Aztec error, to give Tech the win, 5-3.
San Diego State got off to a quick start in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Tech waited until the sixth inning to rally and scored two runs on four straight singles by Drewry, Eimen, Watkins, and Matthews to make the score, 4-2. The Aztecs added one in the sixth, and Tech was unable to complete the rally in the seventh, dropping game two, 4-2.
Texas Tech will conclude play in San Diego tomorrow as it faces the University of San Diego in a single game at 6:00 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the action live at www.texastech.com
