Red Raiders Rally Past Iowa State

AMES, Iowa - Texas Tech softball rallied back from a two-run deficit to defeat the Cyclones of Iowa State, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon. Senior Megan Shupp hit a monster two-run home run to right center field, and Leah Legler hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in the seventh to give Tech the win.
Iowa State was first on the board, when Alex Johnson hit a two-run home run to give the Cyclones the lead, 2-0. Tech would get one back in the fifth when Alex Watkins doubled to right field, and scored on a base hit by Danielle Matthews.
The Red Raiders took the lead in the sixth, when Elizabeth Eimen singled and scored when Shupp homered (3) to give Tech the lead, 3-2. Watkins nearly followed Shupp with a home run of her own, but they ball fell just shy of the fence for a stand up double. Iowa State tied the game back up in the sixth with Carlieigh Berry singled, and scored on a single by Sydni Jones.
Skyler Peterson started the rally in the seventh with a single, and advanced to second when Matthews reached on an error by the Cyclone third baseman. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice by Emily Bledsoe, and Peterson scored on a sacrifice fly by Leah Legler with one out, to give Tech the lead, 4-3.
The Cyclones would attempt to rally in the bottom of the frame, when Carrie Monroe reached after being hit by the pitch. With Monroe on, Watkins forced three straight outs to secure her second victory on the season, and give the Red Raiders the win, 4-3.
Watkins pitched the complete game, striking out two for her second victory on the year. Shupp went 2-3 with two RBIS, and Alex Watkins hit 2-3 with two doubles. Matthews and Legler each had an RBI on the afternoon.
