LUBBOCK, Texas - After a successful 2-0 start to its spring season, the Texas Tech soccer team continues its spring slate this weekend, hosting UTEP at 6 p.m. Fri., March 6, and Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. the following night at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
All fans will be admitted for free for every match. Oklahoma State and UTEP will also face each other at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
In their first action of the spring last Saturday, the Red Raiders edged Houston, 1-0, in the first game of the doubleheader, before downing the University of Miami (Fla.), 2-0, to cap the weekend.
Colleen Pitts led Tech in goal as the junior posted two shutouts in her first action in over a year. Conner Williams, Leanne Mihelich and Maggie Fete all had goals on Tech's opening weekend.
UTEP finished the 2008 season at 13-7-1, eventually bowing out in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament. The Red Raiders and Miners have not met since last spring when Tech took a 1-0 decision in El Paso.
The reigning Big 12 regular season champions, Oklahoma State is already 1-2-1 on the spring, a few months after falling to Rutgers by penalty kicks in the second round of the NCAA Championship. The Cowgirls finished the 2008 campaign with an 18-1-4 record with the 18 wins setting a new school record.
Per NCAA rules, schools are allowed five dates each spring to play exhibition matches. Tech will wait three weeks following this weekend until its next spring match as the Red Raiders travel to Canyon, Texas, to face West Texas A&M on March 29.
