NORMAN, Okla. - Texas Tech's offensive struggles from Friday night carried over into the first game of today's doubleheader as the 11th-ranked Sooners recorded their second-straight shutout, 4-0, at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The win gives Oklahoma the series and the Red Raiders can only hope to avoid the sweep as the two teams will play the second game of this doubleheader and the final game of this series at 4:05 p.m.
The loss drops Texas Tech to 15-22 overall and to 6-8 in Big 12 Conference play while Oklahoma improves to 28-7 and to 8-3 in the league.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to a two-run home run by Sooner nine-hole hitter Matt Harughty. Harughty's home run plated Garrett Buechele who led off the inning with a single to shallow left-center.
The Sooners extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth when left fielder Casey Johnson cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple to deep right-center field.
Senior right-hander AJ Ramos (3-3) suffered the tough-luck loss for the Red Raiders despite an outstanding effort. Ramos hurled the second complete game of his career, allowing four runs on six hits and struckout eight. Stephen Porlier (1-0) held Tech scoreless over five innings in his first start of the year and grabbed the win for Oklahoma.
