Bettis Named Big 12 Pitcher Of The Week

FORT WORTH, Texas - Texas Tech sophomore right-hander Chad Bettis became the first Red Raider this season to earn weekly accolades from the Big 12 Conference as he was named the league pitcher of the week this morning following an outstanding outing over the weekend at No. 11 Oklahoma.
Bettis, a product of Lubbock's Monterey High School, helped the Red Raiders avoid the series sweep by turning in his first career complete game and firing 154 pitches in the process. Bettis held OU, the Big 12's leading offense, to season lows in runs (1) and hits (4). He tossed eight shutout innings before allowing his lone run in the bottom of the ninth after he had thrown 130 pitches. Bettis fanned a career-high nine batters and walked four while facing 35 batters. In Big 12 action, he has been a part of all seven Tech wins and improved to 3-0 in league play with four saves.
On the year, Bettis is Tech's top pitcher with a 4-0 record along with six saves and has posted a 2.79 earned run average. He has logged 51 2/3 innings over four starts and nine relief appearances while striking out 44.
Bettis will be back in action this weekend as the Red Raiders host No. 24 Kansas in a three-game series at Dan Law Field beginning on Friday night. The Jayhawks swept then No. 17 Oklahoma State over the weekend to improve to 7-5 in the Big 12 Conference. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m. and the series continues at 5 p.m. on Saturday before wrapping up at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
