Rivas Leads Red Raiders at Aggie Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Santiago Rivas completed his first round of injury-free golf since suffering a wrist injury three weeks ago and carded a 2-under 70 in the opening round of the Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas, Saturday. The Red Raider senior is tied in 13th place and is a shot out of the top 10 with the second and final round of the rain-shortened event set to tee off Sunday morning.
Playing in soggy conditions, No. 12 Texas Tech spent much of the round tied in fourth place, but shot five over on holes 7-9, which came near the end of the round as the team teed off the event on holes 10-13. The Red Raiders (364) are tied with No. 14 TCU (364) in eighth place and are six strokes out of the top five. No. 2 Oklahoma State (341) leads the tournament at 19-under, while No. 20 Texas A&M (346) fired a 14-under par round and is in second place.
No. 27 San Diego State (356), No. 54 Kent State (357) and No. 38 New Mexico (358) round out the top five. No. 90 Wichita State (360) and No. 39 Baylor (361) are sixth and seventh, while No. 56 Ohio State (365), No. 36 Lamar (373) and No. 130 Kansas (376) are 10th through 12th.
Will Griffin carded a 1-under 71 for the Red Raiders and is tied in 20th place, while Sergio Franky was 1-over and is tied in 40th place. Chris Ward also is tied in 40th place. Tech's stroke leader entering the tournament, Nils Floren, struggled on the day with a 77 as did Garrett Merrell.
