TECH HEADS TO THE PERMIAN BASIN ON TUESDAY Fresh off a series win over No. 11 Texas A&M this past weekend at Dan Law Field, the Red Raiders begin a six-game road swing on Tuesday in Midland. The Red Raiders make their annual pilgrimage to the Permian Basin and will face UT-San Antonio in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at CitiBank Ballpark. First pitch has been set for 3:30 p.m. and fans can order their tickets in advance by logging on to www.midlandrockhounds.org. Following the doubleheader in Midland, Texas Tech will head to Norman for a three-game series against Oklahoma and to Fort Worth the following Monday for an afternoon contest against TCU. THE TEXAS TECH-UTSA SERIES Tuesday's doubleheader at CitiBank Ballpark in Midland between Texas Tech and UTSA will mark just the fifth and sixth all-time meetings between the two in-state schools. The Red Raiders are a perfect 4-0 against the Roadrunners in a series that dates back to the 2000 season when Tech swept a pair of games at Dan Law Field. The two teams met again in 2005 at the Midland College Classic at CitiBank Ballpark and the Red Raiders pounded the Roadrunners 22-7. Tech played UTSA on its home field last year for the very first time and the Red Raiders came out victorious in that one 16-6. TEXAS TECH IN MIDLAND Texas Tech will put a perfect 10-0 record at CitiBank Ballpark to the test on Tuesday afternoon as the Red Raiders take on UTSA in a doubleheader. Tech's first appearance at CitiBank Ballpark was back in 2004 when the Red Raiders defeated the Houston Cougars 12-11 ( Josh Haney walk-off home run) in front of 5,463 fans. Tech then played three games in three-consecutive Midland College Classics in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and earned sweeps in each. The 2008 season marked the first time since 2004 that the Red Raiders did not play a game at the ballpark. A LOOK AT UTSA UT-San Antonio enters Tuesday's doubleheader against Texas Tech with a 16-14 overall record and an 8-7 mark in Southland Conference action. The Roadrunners dropped a three-game series at home over the weekend to Stephen F. Austin despite taking the series opener 12-8. UTSA has lost six of its last seven contests heading into Tuesday. Offensively, the Roadrunners own a .311 team batting average and are led by Jose Hernandez. Hernandez has a .369 average, 13 doubles, nine home runs and 32 RBIs. On the mound, UTSA has a 6.73 staff earned run average with Tuesday starters Marc Gomez and Andy Benedict combining for a 2-2 record. Zach Calhoon is the staff closer with a three saves and an ERA of 6.89. RED RAIDERS ON THE AIR Texas Tech's entire schedule in 2009 including both regular-season and post-season action will be carried live on the flagship station of the Texas Tech Sports Network, KKAM-1340. The Texas Tech Sports Network begins its 16th season of full coverage of Red Raider Baseball. Robert Giovannetti will handle the play-by-play duties for the second year in a row and will be assisted by Matt Miller and Blayne Beal. Network pregame coverage begins 30 minutes prior to first pitch and concludes with a postgame show. Live audio streams will be available for all road games through RaiderVision All-Access while live video/audio will be available for all home games. SHORT HOPS - Senior first baseman Chris Richburg hit in all three games of the Texas A&M series over the weekend to extend his conference hit streak to 12 games ... In Big 12 play, Richburg is second on the team with a .457 average but leads the way with a Big 12 best 17 RBIs and 21 hits.
- Richburg has now hit safely in 19 of Tech's last 20 games and posted a team-best .389 average during that stretch.
- The Tech offense has found more success in Big 12 play as the Red Raiders own a team batting average of .321 in conference games ... the .321 average is second in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma's .344 clip.
- Freshman third baseman Justin Berry has hit safely in 28 of 33 games this season.
- Junior shortstop Joey Kenworthy was Tech's hottest hitter last week with a .476 average over five games against New Mexico and Texas A&M ... in the second game of the series against A&M, Kenworthy hit his first home run of the year (third of his career) and posted a career-high four hits.
- Sophomore catcher Jeremy Mayo belted his seventh home run of the year in the series finale against Texas A&M ... entering Sunday's game against the Aggies, he was the league home run leader in conference games only but now stands in second place after Baylor's Shaver Hansen hit four against Kansas on Sunday ... five of Mayo's seven home runs have come in league play.
- Texas Tech has loaded the bases on four different occasions and has been unable to drive in a single run. The latest was on April 1 in Albuquerque when Tech loaded them up in the fourth only to allow UNM reliever Ryan Escarcega to retire three straight batters without allowing a run.
- Texas Tech has laid down 32 sacrifice bunts this season and is just six away from the entire total of 36 last year.
