Women's Basketball Announces 2009-10 Schedule

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball team will tip-off the 2009-10 season by hosting Sam Houston State on Sat., Nov. 14. The Lady Raiders will play a 14-game non-conference schedule prior to beginning the 16-game Big 12 Conference schedule.
After hosting the Bearkats, the Lady Raiders will take on powerhouse Tennessee in the ESPNU Road to the Championship in San Antonio, Texas, on Tues., Nov. 17. The game will be part of a doubleheader as Connecticut and Texas matchup in the other contest. The Tech-Tennessee game will be televised on ESPNU, while the UConn-Texas game will air on ESPN2.
"We are very excited and honored to be opening our season against national power Tennessee in the 2010 Final Four host city, San Antonio," said Texas Tech head coach Kristy Curry. We are excited for our team and Lady Raider Nation to have this type of game early in the season."
Tech then returns to the United Spirit Arena for seven-straight home games beginning with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sun., Nov. 22. The Lady Raiders will host the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tourney Fri., Nov. 27-Sun., Nov. 29. Prairie View A&M, San Francisco and Texas-Arlington will all participate in the three-day tournament.
The month of December starts off with home games against Texas State (Wed., Dec. 2), New Mexico (Sat., Dec. 5) and Lamar (Tues., Dec. 8). Tech then heads west to take on UCLA on Fri., Dec. 18, before returning home to host Mercer on Mon., Dec. 21.
The Lady Raiders' final non-conference road trip will be to New Orleans for the Tulane Doubletree Classic Mon., Dec. 28, and Tues., Dec. 29. Along with Tech and Tulane, Long Island and North Dakota State will be competing in the tournament.
Tech wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule by hosting Savannah State on Sat., Jan. 2.
"We are excited about our preseason schedule and feel it will help prepare us for Big 12 play as we blend a large freshman class with our returnees," Curry stated.
Big 12 Conference play opens on Sat., Jan.9, as Tech travels to defending conference champions Oklahoma. The rest of the month of January has the Lady Raiders hosting Colorado (Tues., Jan. 12) and Texas (Sat., Jan. 16) before traveling to Texas A&M (Sat., Jan. 23), and then two home games with Nebraska (Wed., Jan. 27) and Oklahoma (Sat., Jan. 30).
Eight games are slated for the month of February: at Iowa State (Wed., Feb. 3), at Texas (Sat., Feb. 6), Texas A&M (Wed., Feb. 10), at Oklahoma State (Sat., Feb. 13), at Baylor (Wed., Feb. 17), Kansas (Sat., Feb. 20), at Kansas State (Wed., Feb. 24) and Oklahoma State (Sat., Feb. 27).
Rounding out league play are two games in March against Baylor (Wed., March 3) and at Missouri (Sun., March 7).
The Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Championship will be held Thurs., March 10-Sun., March 14, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
The FSN television package will be released in late August and conference game times will be announced at that time.
