Tech Hosts Second Meet of Season

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 14 Texas Tech Red Raiders and Lady Raiders will host its second indoor track meet of the season this Friday and Saturday at the Athletic Training Center with events starting at 6 p.m. on Friday night.
Tech started the season last week as four NCAA provisional marks and two new school records were earned during the Texas Tech Open. The women's 4x800M relay and the women's pole vault school records were also rewritten during the meet.
This week the competition gets stronger with teams like ACU, Lubbock Christian, McNeese State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, South Plains, Texas A&M-CC, Texas Southern, UT-Arlington, UTEP and UT-San Antonio all competing.
Debuts will be made by some talented individuals as Bryce Lamb and Lyle Leong will make compete this week. The freshman jumped 52'-6.50" in the triple jump which is an Arizona state record. Texas Tech football player and All-Big 12 high jumper two seasons ago, Leong, will be jumping this week as well.
All-American Omo Osaghae started the season with a NCAA-leading mark of 7.22 in the 55M hurdles. It is also tied for the fastest time in the 60M hurdles when converted. He won the 55M hurdles last week by beating teammate Jansen Hyde after he ran a NCAA Provisional and personal best of 7.34.
Shade Weygandt was the other standout from the Texas Tech Open as she cleared a school record and NCAA provisional mark of 4.11M (13'-5.75"). The freshman is currently has the eighth-best mark in the NCAA.
The meet begins on Friday at 6 p.m. with field events and running starts at 7 p.m. The Saturday's events begin with field events at 10 a.m. and running begins at 11:30 a.m.
The Dash
- Four All-Americans return for the 2010 season. The group includes Time Foster, Markus Henderson, Omo Osaghae, and Gil Roberts.
- Tech has won a total of 13 NCAA track and field or cross country individual national titles.
- Latoy Williams (400M), Omo Osaghae (60M H), Jansen Hyde (60M H) and Shade Weygandt (pole vault) are all in the top 10 in their respective events in the NCAA.
- Tech won a total of 17 events at the Texas Tech Open last weekend.
- The men's hurdle group added two names to the NCAA list as Omo Osaghae and Jansen Hyde ran NCAA Provisional times.
- The Terry and Linda Fuller Track received the American Sports Builders Association's Facility of the Year Award in December.
- Tech has had an All-American hurdler every year since 2005.
