Lady Raiders Win Season Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team won their opening match of the season with a 4-2 victory over UT-Arlington.
Due to weather conditions, the matches moved indoors to the Lubbock Country Club where play began with singles competition and the doubles portion of the match was not played.
Freshman Sandra Dynka, playing No.1 singles, topped Klara Jagosova, 7-5, 6-4. Playing at the No. 3 spot, Elizabeth Ullathorne defeated Monika Haduigerova, 6-1, 6-1. Lorena Aviles won by forfeit at the No. 6 singles position.
The Lady Raiders lost at the No. 2 spot as Kelsy Garland fell to Katarina Mlocohova, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, and Natalie Leitch fell to Maria Martinez at the No. 4 position, 7-5, 6-4.
The Lady Raiders clinched their season opening victory when Caroline Starck defeated Nikola Matovicova at the No. 5 singles position, 6-4, 6-1.
On Saturday at 11 AM, the Lady Raiders take on the Green Wave of Tulane at the McLeod Tennis Center.
After the matches this weekend, the Lady Raiders play all their matches on the road until returning to their home courts on March 3.
